Rehabilitation Services
Meeker Memorial’s rehabilitation services providers work with you to meet your goals and highest potential, wherever you are in your path to recovery. We’re committed to helping you return to a healthy, functioning lifestyle!
Rehabilitation is often an essential part of your plan of care after a musculoskeletal injury or surgery. Your doctor may order rehabilitation as one of the first steps toward recovery. Meeker Memorial offers the full spectrum of services to keep you progressing throughout your entire recovery, from your acute illness to outpatient rehabilitation, to your return to activity and sports.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapists evaluate and treat disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The goal is simple … restore maximal functional independence to each individual patient. The focus of physical therapy is to analyze your movement, help you re-educate your muscles to achieve good movement and make you aware of your positioning. Exercise is one of the main modalities used to achieve physical therapy goals. We do utilize the physical agents of heat, cold, electricity, dry needling and manual techniques to accomplish our goals as well. Through patient and therapist interaction, physical therapy can help restore movement and function helping patients return to their prior level of independence.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists work with people of all ages who need specialized assistance to lead independent, productive, and satisfying lives due to physical, developmental, social, or emotional problems. Occupational therapists will find out what you do to “occupy” your time and will help you develop a plan to achieve your highest level of independence. Occupational therapists assist patients to restore daily activities of self-care, work, and play/leisure activities to increase independence, enhance development, and/or prevent disability. Occupational therapists work on vision, cognition, movement, sensory input and overall function. Adaptations to the task and environment can help patients achieve their goals.
Speech Therapy
Speech Therapists provide a wide range of services, mainly on an individual basis, but also as support for individuals, families, support groups, and providing information for the public. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults. They also work with augmentative communication through technology.
Inpatient Rehabilitation
During your inpatient stay at Meeker Memorial Hospital, your physician may request that you are evaluated by our rehabilitation staff. Our therapists’ role in your recovery is to ensure that you are strong, mobile, and safe enough to return home. They will also help coordinate with your family and/or caregivers to ensure your successful return to normal activity. In the event that you are not able to return home quite yet, your team will work with you and your family and/or caregivers to ensure that you are receiving the proper level of care after discharge.
Once a therapist has graduated from an accredited school, they are eligible to go on and get additional certifications.
