Our Story

For more than a century, we have been serving and caring for the people of Meeker County.

Our story finds its origin in 1897 – beginning as a privately operated hospital – then, in 1910, becoming The Litchfield Hospital. That original hospital operated until 1952 when a new facility was erected and we became known as Meeker County Memorial Hospital (MCMH), a nonprofit hospital serving the Meeker County area. MCMH was originally licensed as a 70-bed hospital and expanded to a 91-bed hospital in 1970.

Beginning in 1988, hospital leadership noticed a change in health care delivery models and responded to growing trend toward offering more outpatient services. The hospital began major renovation projects to decrease the total bed size to 38 inpatient beds and provide space to deliver more outpatient services with major renovations happening again in 1989, 1992, 1995 and 2003.

In November 2007, we broke ground on a $26.5 million expansion, 75,000 square feet expansion. This expansion focused on patient care improvements including:

  • new inpatient wing equipped with private rooms for rooms for medical surgical and critical care,
  • new private OB suites for special deliveries
  • new surgical suites, radiology and emergency department – all located on main
  • expanded space for rehabilitation services and specialty clinics on second floor
  • updates to the Prairie Winds Café
  • new chapel

What began as the Litchfield Hospital nearly a century ago has grown, adapted and advanced to offer state-pf-the-art care to area residents. Today, our 25-bed facility in Litchfield and two clinic locations (Litchfield and Dassel) proudly serves the health care needs of Meeker County residents.
